OnlySimchas.com
Okay, care to explain to me the concept and reasoning behind onlysimchas.com or otherwise known as os.com. Why is there a web page for all of us Jews out there listing our locations and our mazel Tovs? I like that actually. I think it is neat to have that, but the sign my guestbook is getting out of hand.
I don't like where people are hinting in public for all to read including in-laws families what the person has done in a previous life. I mean why joke around with nicknames and make the mother in-laws think something entirely different. Why are you NOW mentioning things that have been long forgotten and not worth mentioning during this time. It is a simcha! Maybe an engagement, or marriage, or birth, bris, or what have you...Graduation, now birthdays...Why are we mentioning something that can cause misunderstandings and cause grief on such a day?
Then you have the pictures. Some of the pictures SHOULD not be posted on a Jewish web site. I guess it takes time for the pictures to go through the filters and be taken off the site. Why are competing to see how many pictures can be put up, or how many times one simcha can be added to web page. Do they actually read the names? Or if I post a simcha the next ten can do the same and have the same simcha listed ten times?
What happens if someone does NOT want their simcha listed, or what if the simcha is no longer a simcha but it is too late is has been broadcasted to the entire Jewish community and anyone else who chances by it. Oh well. Too bad. Next time think about it before posting it!
I am sure there are good things about it. Like seeing when friends whom you have lost in touch with or classmates or people you know have a simcha..And you just lost touch with and now is your chance to rekindle that relationship. Assuming that person is indeed the same person you are thinking about.
I like os and I don't like it for many reasons. It definitely needs some fine tuning and a different approach to it..But in the mean time....
onlysimchas!
